Entities Accredited by ENAC: What They Are and Why They Are a Benchmark of Quality
Having the backing of being entities accredited by ENAC has become synonymous with excellence. Accreditation is a guarantee that the services offered by an organization —whether a laboratory, an inspection body, or a certification body— meet rigorous internationally recognized standards.
At GSC, we have been supporting laboratories, technical centers, and conformity assessment bodies on their path to accreditation for over 30 years. That’s why we explain what it means to be part of the group of entities accredited by ENAC, why this accreditation is a key differentiator, and how our consultancy helps achieve it effectively, solidly, and strategically.
What is ENAC and what does it mean to be an accredited entity?
ENAC (Entidad Nacional de Acreditación) is the body designated by the Government of Spain to operate as the sole national accreditation body, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 765/2008.
Its role is to assess the technical competence of organizations that perform conformity assessment activities: testing and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies, environmental verifiers, among others.
Why is being an entity accredited by ENAC synonymous with quality?
An entity accredited by ENAC has demonstrated, after an exhaustive technical audit process, that it complies with all the requirements established in international standards such as ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17020, or ISO/IEC 17065, among others. This accreditation confirms that the services it provides are technically valid, reliable, and recognized both nationally and internationally.
Official recognition and prestige
Obtaining ENAC accreditation is both a technical and strategic achievement. Not every organization can hold this status: only those that truly master the technical, methodological, and management requirements. Being an entity accredited by ENAC is, in itself, a clear message to the market: “we are reliable, competent, and committed to quality.”
Trust for clients and authorities
Companies, public administrations, and consumers need certainty that the inspections, certifications, or tests they receive are rigorous and objective. Having an accredited entity as a provider reduces risks, avoids conflicts, and facilitates acceptance of results both nationally and internationally.
Access to markets and tenders
In many regulated sectors (healthcare, environment, construction, food industry, etc.), only accredited entities are allowed to operate. Accreditation opens doors: it enables access to tenders, mandatory certifications, and recognition in international markets thanks to the multilateral agreements that ENAC maintains with other accreditation bodies.
Types of entities that can be accredited by ENAC
ENAC accreditation is not exclusive to one type of organization. In fact, at GSC we have worked with multiple entities that need to demonstrate their technical competence in different areas:
- Testing and calibration laboratories.
- Inspection bodies.
- Certification bodies for products, systems, and people.
- Environmental verifiers (EMAS, carbon footprint).
- Proficiency testing providers.
- Producers of reference materials.
Each type of entity undergoes a different evaluation, under regulatory criteria adapted to its activity, but always within a rigorous, technical framework aligned with international standards.
The role of GSC in the accreditation process
Achieving ENAC accreditation is not a simple task. It requires technical knowledge, regulatory expertise, and a solid documentation structure. At GSC, we specialize in advising entities throughout the process of implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the management system required to achieve accreditation.
Our methodology is based on a combination of experience, customization, and strategic focus. Our services include:
