What is Proficiency Testing?
Proficiency Testing (PT) is an external quality control tool that compares the results of different laboratories to regularly and objectively assess their technical competence, ensure the reliability of their analyses, reinforce self-control, and enhance reputation. It is important because it helps achieve different objectives:
- Achieve regular, objective, and independent evaluation of analytical results to promote continuous improvement of tests (Proficiency Testing according to ISO 17043).
- Obtain method validation (collaborative trials according to ISO 5725).
- Obtain certified reference materials (certification tests according to ISO 17034).
Planned and periodic participation in PT exercises, preferably organized by ISO 17043-accredited providers, is essential as it is one of the tools required by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) to demonstrate compliance with UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.

Distributor and Organizer:
At GSC, we offer a wide annual range of PT schemes, grouped and published in our catalog, so that interested laboratories can register according to their matrices of interest. We distribute samples that reflect their real analytical conditions.
These schemes compare the results obtained by each laboratory with the assigned value for each exercise, usually based on the consensus of participating laboratories. All analyze the same sample to determine their proficiency in the evaluated parameter or matrix.

Provider:
At GSC, we also act as a provider of PT exercises for other organizers, covering the specific needs of our clients by developing all phases of proficiency testing: from preparation and distribution of real samples, participant support, analysis of results, to report delivery.
We also offer the possibility of collaboration in the development of specific PT schemes by carrying out certain phases such as statistical processing or providing related consulting services.
Thanks to our experience, we have successfully developed schemes for organizations involving a large number of laboratories, both national—such as the Andalusian Regional Government—and international—such as the International Olive Council (IOC).
